DataMagic Technical Column Vol.22 Appendix
<Common Component Import and Execution Procedures>
Introduction
DataMagic allows you to import and execute management information saved as a file.
This TIPS explains the procedure for importing and executing management information using the script file from DataMagic Technical Column Vol. 22.
To use this tip, you must have DataMagic installed on your computer. For information on where to get DataMagic and how to install it, please refer to the separate article "Installing DataMagic."
How to operate
A binary editor is required to check the input and output data, so please prepare one separately.
Step 1 - Prepare the data to be converted and the script file
First, prepare the input data (the "in" file) and the data conversion script file (the "sample22.igen" file). Download sample22.zip from the link below and save it in the following folder on the PC where DataMagic is installed.
C:\work\SAMPLE22\ (Saves “in” and “sample22.igen”)
In this TIPS, we will use fixed-length data of kanji character code JEF as input data.

(Note: The sample file is in zip format. Please unzip it before use.)
Step 2 - Import DataMagic script file
Import the new common component and the data processing that uses that common component. Use the "sample22.igen" file obtained in step 1.
C:\work\SAMPLE22\sample22.igen
Launch DataMagic administration screen and import the downloaded script file into DataMagic. To import, click the [Import Management Information] icon under [Tools] on the start page screen. On the Import Management Information screen, specify the downloaded file and click the Import button.
If the import is successful, the following ID will be registered.
- Data processing information list screen
The ID SAMPLE22 will be registered.
- Format information list screen
The ID SAMPLE22 will be registered.
- Common component information list screen
The ID SAISON_REPLACE_HEX will be registered.
Step 3 – Run DataMagic and check the results
Double-click the data processing information ID SAMPLE22 registered in step 2 and check that the file names for the input and output settings are set correctly. Open the data processing information ID SAMPLE22 from the screen and click the "Execute" button at the top of the screen.
When execution is complete, a file called "out" will be created in the C:\work\SAMPLE22\ directory specified in the output settings. Check the contents using a binary editor.
